Saved our bird's life and more...

Please do the right thing and buy one of these for every caged bird you keep. Always give a bird a heated perch. We now always use thermal perches (aka thermo perch) ever since it's come on the market/been invented. These have saved our bird's life on several occasions. We have an umbrella cockatoo and use the medium sized perch. He would catch at least 2 colds per year, sometimes life threatening. Birds hide sickness very well else in the wild flocks will abandon sick birds to avoid catching illnesses. By the time you notice they're sick it could be too late. In the past we tried heat lamps but he accidentally got too warm/burned skin). These perches are a perfect temp for him all the time. And they seem indestructible. Now our guy never catches a cold or gets sick (have we gotten lucky?). He's much calmer, less screaming, fidgeting, repetitive motion--stuff cockatoos do when not happy. He's much happier. We have a daytime cage and nighttime cage, both cages have thermal perches. When we board him we always set up a thermal perch. Rooms that are kept at temperatures comfortable for humans (70-74 deg f) are way too cold for many types of birds--they seem never warm enough for caged birds. Also please never put your bird where there is a draft from A/C or windows, etc because of household molds that can grow in the lungs and kill birds. BTW the easy way for us to tell if our bird is too cold is to touch his feet and beak; if they are not warm to the touch then he is too cold. Please do the right thing and use these perches. You should pay no more than forty for these.

Wonderful for your birds!

When I first heard about Thermo Perches I thought it was an interesting idea, but probably not necessary for my birds.

Was I wrong! I came across one of these at a big discount and decided to try it in the cage where two of my cockatiels live. At first they were leary of it (natural) but then the older cockatiel got brave and tried it. For awhile I'd come home from work and there was the older cockatiel, happily perched on it. Most nights he slept on it.

Then the other cockatiel decided it might be worth checking out. Now they both stay on it, sometimes sleeping on it, sometimes not.

Parrots wouldn't use this perch if it didn't feel good to them.

I especially loved that the cord is wrapped in a metal coil -- there's nothing my parrots won't try to chew, and the coil would keep them from the cord. Of course, the design of the perch is such that they can't even get to the cord once the perch is fastened to the cage.

Get one, or two. You won't regret it and your bird will feel much better.

This Product is for the Birds!

This is a great product; every bird owner should own one. My cockatiel is 19 years old so it took him a long time to warm up to it, in fact, I finally put it where his favorite perch was and forced him to use it. It has different heat zones so he gets to regulate his own temp. He hasn't complained about it once!! One thing to note, the perch is longer & larger than you would expect so follow the guidelines on what size to buy and make sure your cage is large enough.

Bigger than Expected

I purchased the small Thermo Perch for a parakeet. Although billed as a small perch, the diameter of the perch is still rather large except at the tip. The insulating plastic on the perch gets thinner from back to front allowing more heat to come through toward the tip of the perch. The temperature varies on the perch from no heat to warm at the tip. It is also pretty long for a parakeet cage. When attached to the back of the cage, the perch reaches about 3/4 of the way to the front of the cage.

The perch doesn't get hot so you don't have to worry about your bird burning it's feet. However, I am not sure if most of the perch is warm enough. Except at the tip you can't really feel much heat. Maybe bird feet are more sensitive.

My parakeet will not sit on the perch but he will sit next to it. He tends to be a bit skittish of new things. Although he doesn't sit on the perch I think he is still getting some benefit from the heat from the perch when his cage is covered for the night. He's always sitting next to it in the morning.

The drawbacks are the hard plastic covering and the large diameter of the "small" perch. The pluses are low energy usage and a safe heat source for my bird at night.

My cockatiel loves it. You have peace of mind knowing that your bird is warm. The size is a bit different that other brands, the small one looks more like medium, take measurement before you buy it. I would buy it again!

Temp varies from lukewarm to comfortably warm depending on where "Buddy" stands. Nice product at a fair price.

Great product. The bird loves his warm perch. The only problem we had was removing the disc from the flange to install it. It was glued together. Husband had to use a knife to scrape between in order top free the flange. Would buy again though.

My Parakeet warmed up to it instantly

I live in a cold climate and my Parakeet was often cold despite of the warming bulb. I ordered a small Thermo Perch and initially got very disappointed with how big and wide it was. Apparently, I failed to visualize its actual size based on the dimensions provided. It was much larger than any perches used by my Parakeet so far. However, since it was the smallest size available, I decided to give it a try. My bird really likes it, and he doesn't seem to mind the large circumference of it. He uses it almost exclusively now, and he looks very relaxed and comfortable.

I wanted to make sure my little buddy always had access to extra warmth. I prefer to keep the house a little cooler at night (and so does my pocketbook). Aside from running an extra electric heater in his room, this heated perch seems to do the trick.

He was not afraid of it and stepped right on it when I offered him reach. He readily accepted it in his cage and figured out quickly that it was warm.

The only drawback I can see to this item is that it feels slippery to me. Perhaps a little texture would help this.

All in all, a great product, a great idea. Pete loves it.

The Thermal Perch has a safe temperature that never changes and keeps birds
feet warm. Our Rosy Bourke's feet stays warmer now. This is a product I highly recommend for any bird.
